What is Cloud Computing |Type of Cloud Storage Services and Service Models?

Before knowing cloud computing, you have to understand

What is computing?

All kinds of facilities, services, and activities that you manage, process, and communicate information through the computer or which are performed by the computer are called computing. Cloud is a metaphor for the internet.

After reading this, you will know

1.       What is cloud computing?

2.       Type of Service models

3.       Type of Deployment models

4.       What are the benefits and challenges?

What is Cloud Computing and how it works?

Cloud computing can be defined as worldwide convenient, to a shared pool of configurable computing resources in a simple way we can say it is the delivery of different services through the Internet including Network, Storage, Servers, Application, Software, & others. It is Virtual, it is not physically available in front of us, and we will need the internet to access it.

iCloud, Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox all are examples of Cloud Storage Services that allow you to save files like photos, documents, videos, online and access them anywhere from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. We can also delete, edit, organize and move any files.

When you sign up for iCloud, Google account, and others, you automatically get 5 GB of free iCloud Storage, and in Google, you get 15 GB of free storage. If you want more space, you can buy and change the storage plan.

Type of Cloud Computing services

There are many services in the Cloud; mainly these three services are popular.

1.       Software as a Service (SaaS)

2.       Platform as a Service (PaaS)

3.       Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

Software as a Service (SaaS)

The purpose of SaaS is to deliver on-demand computing services through applications or allow the users to connect and use cloud-based apps over the Internet.

·     It is typically provided through the pay-as-you-go model because SaaS provides complete software solutions.

·      It involves the licensure of a software application to customers.

Common examples are Gmail, Microsoft Office 365, and Google Docs.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

·     It is considered PaaS is the typical and complex service model out of all three services.

·     PaaS shares some similarities with SaaS, the primary difference is that instead of delivering software online, it is a platform for creating software that is delivered via the internet.

·    In a short way on SaaSwe is taking software facility, we are customers and users, but on PaaS, we get the facility to make software basically it is for Application development platform to developers or organization not for end-users.

Here are some examples- Google App Engine, Windows Azure, Force.com, Heroku, etc.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

·     IaaS provides all the infrastructure to support web apps, including storage, web and application servers, and networking resources.

·      It involves online delivering everything from the operating system for servers and storage through IP-based connectivity as a part of an on-demand service. Only IP-based devices can access this service like your mobile, tablet, computer, etc.

·     Clients don’t need to purchase these services. You can understand well through the diagram below

Types of cloud computing

A Cloud system can be operated in four deployment models.

1.     Public Cloud

A Public Cloud is a huge data center that offers the same services to all its users. A public cloud is an open system where storage or software are available for free or pay per usage model that can be accessed via the Internet. Services are owned and operated by third-party operators IBM is the most open and secure public cloud for business.

2.     Private Cloud

Used for a single organization can be internally or externally hosted. Only limited or authorized people can access it. It provides a high level of security and privacy to data through firewalls and internal hosting. Greater flexibility to control the cloud environment. HP Data Centers, Ubuntu, Microsoft are examples of.

3.     Hybrid Cloud

A hybrid Cloud is a combining Public and Private Cloud environment. Non-critical activities are performed using the public cloud while the critical activities are performed using the Private Cloud. Hybrid clouds can be cost-saving.

4.     Community Cloud

A community cloud is a recent variation on the Private Cloud but is better security and privacy, and more expensive than a Public Cloud. It is a multi-tenant platform that allows the different cloud customers or different organizations are accessing the same computing resources and services.

For example, Salesforce Community Cloud is an online social platform for companies to create branded sites connecting customers, users, and employees with each other.

What are Cloud Computing advantages & Disadvantages?

·       Cheaper – No need to invest in hardware-software or any infrastructure, Pay per Use, no administrative or management cost

·        Secure – Cloud management, Security

·        Data Backup and Recovery

·        Huge Cloud Storage

·        Seamless –Any Time, Any Place

·        Personalized – You can manage in your  way

·        Computing resources are Up-to-date all time

·        Scalable – We can Expand Capacity and limits

Disadvantages of cloud computing

·         Require good speed internet with good bandwidth

·         Limited control of infrastructure

·         Security issues

·         Non-Negotiable agreements

·         Incompatibility – Sometimes, there are problems of software or applications.

What are the 3 types of cloud computing?

1) Public cloud 2) Private cloud 3) Hybrid cloud 4) community cloud for example - Amazon web services, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud, etc.

What are the 6 cloud computing?

1)Software as a Service (SaaS) example- Microsoft Office 365, and Google Docs. 2) Platform as a Service (PaaS) example-Google App Engine, Windows Azure. 3) Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) example-Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine (GCE), etc.

Is Gmail a cloud?

Yes, Gmail is an example of a Public Cloud.

What are the 4 types of cloud storage?

1) Public cloud storage - I cloud, Google drive, one drive. 2) Private cloud storage- HP Data Centers, Microsoft, Elastra-private cloud. 3) Hybrid cloud- it is the combination of Public and private cloud. 4) Community cloud-A community cloud is a recent variation on the Private Cloud but is better security and privacy.

Cloud computing meaning

We can say it is the delivery of different services through the Internet, including Network, Storage, Servers, Application, Software, & others. It is Virtual, it is not physically available in front of us, and we will need the internet to access it.
